DNA SOCIETY OF INDIA
DNA is the genetic material of the cell of all living objects. DNA research has found remarkable significance ever since the discovery of the double helical structure of DNA by Watson and Crick in 1953. Rapid progress in genome science and a glimpse into its potential applications have spurred observers to predict that biology will be the foremost science of the 21st century. Technology and resources generated by the Human Genome Project and other genomics research are already having a major impact on research across the life sciences. Today the applications of DNA study ranges from DNA forensics (crime detection to identification of the paternity of the individual), agriculture, livestock breeding, and bioprocessing, bioarchaeology, anthropology, evolution, human migration, molecular medicine etc. Because DNA analysis methods are advancing exponentially, DNA research is destined to have significant impact on human life.
